I’m not sure where to even begin.
Beginnings aren’t easy.
Sometimes they’re downright intimidating.
Like our backyard on the day we bought our house here in El Paso.
Rocks, Litter, Dirt, and the extreme absence of grass.
I remember we took turns raking the rocks across our dusty blank canvas.
Which is exactly what a new beginning is – a blank canvas.
Then we planted grass.
We watered the seed.
And we waited.
Suddenly our blank canvas, began to show the merits of hard work and patience.
The challenge, was to remember to celebrate these small victories –
without being discouraged by the big picture.
Because although we had tangible progress,
there were still untouched areas that were still at square one.
Like the designated ‘garden’ corner of our yard.
It was largely untouched during the first 8 months.
Now here I sit. Twenty six months have passed since that first picture was taken.
Our children can run barefoot in a yard that was once full of broken glass and thorns.
I had no idea what kinds of challenges we would face when we moved here two years ago.
But I can safely say in retrospect, it has all made us stronger.
Our family is finally thriving in the desert.
And I can begin again, to tell our story.
